| The Margerison-McCann Types of Work Index |
![]() | The Types of Work Index is a job analysis instrument that analyses a job according to the 8 types of work defined by Margerison and McCann (1984). Unlike comprehensive job analytical instruments, the TOW index identifies the critical or key areas that "make the difference" in effectiveness of the job. The results can be mapped on to the Types of Work Model, providing a basis for job re-design, development of job descriptions and specifications, re-engineering and organizational turnaround. Used together with the Team Management Index, the Types of Work Index provides rich qualitative and quantitative data for recruitment, placement, and performance appraisal. The Types of Work Index can be completed by a job incumbent, past job-holder, supervisor, or independent rater. Comparing these ratings is often instructive in identifying priorities of a job from a 360 degree perspective. |
